Fotografie gilt als ein Medium, das die Gegenwart konserviert und dabei Oberflächen präzise abtastet. Für die Aufzeichnung von schwer zu fassenden, emotionalen Zuständen eignet sich die Genauigkeit der Kameraoptik und deren hohe Auflösung jedoch nicht immer. Um diesen Gefühlszuständen eine visuelle Entsprechung zu geben, arbeiten Künstler*innen mit den Eigenschaften des fotografischen Materials ebenso wie mit performativen Interventionen vor und nach dem Drücken des Auslösers. Sie verstehen Fotografien dabei als Bildkörper, in deren spezifischer Gestalt sich individuelle Emotionen und kollektive Erfahrungen ablesen beziehungsweise einschreiben lassen. Mit Werkbeispielen von zeitgenössischer Künstler*innen versucht dieser Vortrag das gegenwärtige Arbeitsweisen mit dem Material ihrem ihrer Vielfalte zu vorzustellen.
Christin Müller ist freie Kuratorin und Autorin und lebt in Leipzig. Sie hat Kulturwissenschaften an der Universität Hildesheim studiert und war Stipendiatin im Programm Museumskurator*innen für Fotografie der Krupp-Stiftung. Zuletzt (co-)kuratierte sie u. a. die Ausstellungen It’s the 21st Century that Expects Everything from You (HAUNT, Berlin, 2025), Images of the Present. 30 Jahre Dokumentarfotografie Förderpreise der Wüstenrot Stiftung (Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, 2023/24), Sophie Thun. Trails and Tributes (Kunstverein Hildesheim, 2022) und Hosen haben Röcke an. Künstlerinnengruppe Erfurt 1984–1994 (nGbK, Berlin, 2021/22). Sie lehrt regelmäßig am Institut für Kunstgeschichte der Universität Leipzig und schreibt für Zeitschriften und Ausstellungskataloge.

What insights does photography provide about people's feelings? How can feelings be captured photographically - or created visually? Together with invited international artists, scientists, curators and teachers, we will reflect on the power of emotions in and from images. What are their potentials and dangers? On Friday, the focus will be on the creation of emotions in the digital and generative image world. In addition to current scientific lectures on the expression of emotions in photography, curators will speak on Saturday about their experiences in dealing with emotions and exhibition practice. KHM students will discuss emotions as a catalyst for artistic practice in times of multiple crises with speakers they have invited.
