Would you like to take a short or long photo tour of the Photoszene Festival 2023?
How about a zigzag course through the city center? We have prepared a route for you, on which you will find all the exhibition venues in the center of Cologne, you just pick out your raisins or make several stages on different days. Please note: Here you will also find all the major museums, for some of which you should plan a little more time.
Also, make sure that all the exhibition venues are really open on the day you have chosen for your tour. You will find the opening hours at the bottom of the page.
Nr. 59 - You start at Jens Scholz Kunstauktionen in Cologne (Zeughausstr. 10 / entrance Mohrenstr. 6), where the exhibition "Spiegelbilder" (mirror images) is about reflection and self-reflection in the complete works of the Bauhäusler Florence Henri and Marianne Brandt.
Nr. 02 - Just a 5-minute walk away, at the NS-Dokumentationszentrum der Stadt Köln (Appellhofplatz 25), you can see how the Spanish artist Pablo Lerma, invited by the Photoszene as part of Artist Meets Archive #3, questions the photographic holdings from the National Socialist era for aspects of visibility and invisibility, representation and trauma.
Nr. 56 - One subway station or 15-minute walk away, GULLIVER Survival Station for the Homeless (Trankgasse (Bahnbogen 1) 20) presents the exhibition "Alaaf auf Abstand."
Nr. 15 - Right next to our landmark, the Cologne Cathedral, you can see works by Tarrah Krajnaks, VALIE EXPORT, Sanja Iveković, Ana Mendieta and Carrie Mae Weems in the FOTORAUM of the Museum Ludwig (Heinrich-Böll-Platz) and take a first break here afterwards in the café.
Nr. 03 - After a 10-minute walk through Cologne's old town, you'll reach another presentation from the Artist Meets Archive series: at the Handwerkkammer Köln (Heumarkt 12), Lilly Lulay explores the question of how an artificial intelligence views images and what, in comparison, guides its own artistic attention.
Nr. 82 - And now off to the hustle and bustle of Cologne's shopping mile? Tucked away in the former Mantelhaus Goertz (Hohe Straße 93-99), the exhibition "Erlebniswelt Mantelhaus - damals | heute | morgen" shows historical photographs from the 1950s by Karl Hugo Schmölz as well as photo art and video installations from the present and future.
Nr. 36 - Just two streets away, on L.-Fritz-Gruber-Platz, the BDB - Bund Deutscher Baumeister (Association of German Master Builders) presents a cross-section of Cologne's vibrant urban architecture in an open-air exhibition.
Nr. 14 - It's a 10-minute walk to the Kunst-Station Sankt Peter (Leonhard-Tietz-Str. 6), where American conceptual artist Peter Downsbrough uses a variety of media, including photography, sculpture and wall art, to create his space-related exhibitions "TURM RAUM KUNST".
Nr. 04 - Once you have turned around your own axis, you are almost at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum (Cäcilienstr. 33), where you can see another Artist Meets Archive project: The starting point of the project by South African artist Lebohang Kganye is a collection of images by German painter and photographer Marie Pauline Thorbecke, which are stored in the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum's archive.
Nr. 06 - Continue on to the Temporary Gallery (Mauritiuswall 35), where the exhibition 'Vibrant Waters' explores the relational and material complexity of water.
Nr. 78 - A short walk of about 5 minutes leads you to the last exhibition spot of the city center tour: At WEYER51 (Weyerstr. 51) Freya Hattenberger focuses on the relationship between body and space.
