Would you like to take a short or long photo tour of the Photoszene Festival 2023?
How about a tour in the South of Cologne? We have prepared two routes for you, one long and one short, which can of course be combined individually. You simply pick out your raisins or make several stages on different days out of it.
But be careful: Make sure that all exhibition venues are really open on the day you have chosen for your tour. You will find the opening hours at the bottom of the page.
No. 55 - You start at GLASMOOG - Raum für Kunst & Diskurs / KHM Köln (Filzengraben 2), where Stefanie Pluta takes a decolonial look at Cologne's botanical gardens, tracing lines of connection between the desire for artificial paradises and colonial history through contemporary and historical photographs.
No. 48 - Just around the corner at Case - Project Space of Photography / KHM Cologne (Große Witschgasse 9), the exhibition 'Double Presence' extends the medium of photography to projections of material captured in frame, moving images and sensitively staged memories.
No. 63 - 10 minutes' walk away, at Kunsthafen in Rhenania (Bayenstr. 28), artistic positions reflect on the ongoing destruction of our planet and the resulting need for action.
No. 62 - Students of the KISD (Köln International School of Design, TH Köln) / Room 11 (Ubierring 40) have dealt with the terms "Trust - Distance - Intimacy" by means of very personal stories in the form of various photo series. Since the walk here was a bit longer, you can take a break in the Mensa or one of the numerous cafés around it.
No. 52 - But now the Smend Gallery (Mainzer Str. 31) is just around the corner. Here Michael Hooymann shows analog photo works from the 1980s.
No. 50 - At fotoatelier sued (Elsaßstr. 1), just a few minutes' walk away, female photographers from the F5 collective ask: What makes us who we are? How do we see ourselves? How are we seen?
No. 21 - The Grevy Gallery (Rolandstr. 69) two streets away presents Herlinde Koelbl, who portrayed the togetherness of ʻfine societyʼ with an unclouded and humorous eye on various public occasions of ʻhaute voléeʼ.
No. 05 - So, now a quick coffee on hand, it's on to the art spaces of the Michael Horbach Foundation (Wormser Str. 23), where you'll find the exhibition "Photography in Progress: Fragile Infrastructures," curated from within the photo scene as part of the Co-Labs exhibitions.
No. 32 - Less than a 10-minute walk away, you can meet the artist herself at Atelier Anna E. Stärk (Volksgartenstr. 14), who has been moving through streets around the world with her camera for 50 years.
No. 71 - The last stop on the long tour of Südstadt is RICHAS DIGEST (Lothringer Str. 52), where Rocio Madrid sees photography as a vital motor.
So, now you really deserve a break. How about a popsicle in the Volksgarten or a delicious pizza at Eifelplatz?
