Chris Durham, born in London in 1964, studied photography at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, where he was also a master student of Prof. Thomas Ruff in 2002. Durham's works have been presented in numerous exhibition houses in Europe. He has exhibited in Berlin, Paris, Frankfurt, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Bonn.
After more than 15 years since the Good Friday Agreement, the division of Belfast's population is still palpable: many streets and settlements are Irish nationalist or British loyalist. Thus murals, graffiti or everyday objects such as fences or advertising posters are politically charged: Whether simply or complexly coded, they recall attacks, battle scenes, heroes and victims of conflict. These tensions, provocations, bitterness and slowly emerging hope make Belfast unique for Durham.
