Irina Ruppert, born in Aktubinsk, Kazakhstan, in 1968, has exhibited her work throughout Europe in recent years. Her work has recently been exhibited at the Staatsgalerie Russe in Bulgaria, the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin, the Galery of Fine Arts in Koroska, Slovenia and the Galerie Akademija in Vilnius, Lithuania. She has also received numerous prestigious grants, such as that of the project funding organisation VG Bild-Kunst.
In her series "Soldaten_0008-0129" Irina Ruppert combines passport and portrait photographs of soldiers of different nationalities with dead insects. The irritating aspect of the picture is the correspondence between the soldiers' facial expressions and standardised postures and the animal carcasses.
