Lilly Lulay was an invited artist in the Artist Meets Archive program of Photoszene Köln in 2022/2023. During her residency in 2022, she explored the specific holdings of Cologne photographer Karl-Heinz Hatlé in the Rheinisches Bildarchiv and realized the exhibition "Ghosts@Work" at the Cologne Chamber of Crafts for the Photoszene Festival 2023.
Lilly Lulay explores the question of how an artificial intelligence views images and what directs its own artistic attention in comparison. Machine vision of photographs on hard disks, clouds, social media platforms and cell phone memories has become an integral part of today's navigation through digital worlds. But what distinguishes our vision from the optical sorting of the machine? These questions accompanied Lilly Lulay in her examination of the archive of Cologne-based (stereo) photographer Karl-Heinz Hatlé, who travelled to many parts of the world between 1961 and 1999 and also depicted the first signs of a globalized world of goods.
