Barbara J. Scheuermann is curator for contemporary art and head of the graphic and media art collections at the Kunstmuseum Bonn. Earlier positions included the Wilhelm Hack Museum in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Tate Modern in London, and the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf, as well as several years as a freelance curator and author in Berlin. Among other things, she curated the exhibitions Welt in der Schwebe – Luft als künstlerisches Material (2022), Candice Breitz (2020) and Heidi Specker (2018).

In her curatorial work and research, she focuses in particular on narrativity in images as well as art as a reflection on social- and identity political developments. Her most recent exhibition “Expect the Unexpected. Aktuelle Konzepte für Fotografie” at the Kunstmuseum Bonn (together with Michael Reisch) focuses on the influence of the latest technologies on photography.
