Peter Bialobrzeski studied politics and sociology before working as a local reporter in his native city of Wolfsburg. After studying communication design with a focus on photography in Essen (Folkwangschule) and London (LCP), he initially worked for international magazines before he began publishing his projects in book form in the late 1990s.
Since 1989, his photographic works have been published in renowned international magazines and journals and honoured by numerous awards, such as the Dr. Erich Salomon Prize of the DGPh in 2012. Since 1994, he has been a member of the independent photo agency laif in Cologne. Since 2002, he has been a professor of photography at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen.
The photograph shows houses that are soon to be demolished to make way for new apartment complexes. Taken at night, the picture shows ruined houses that are still inhabited. The light still shimmers through the windows or illuminates the doorsteps. The series impressively illustrates under what conditions and with what will people hold on to their homes.
